Origins: The shirt is the result of a cultural mix: inspired by the traditional Mexican shirts worn by the vaqueros (made of silk or very light cotton) and the combat shirts worn by the Confederate soldiers during the American Civil War. From a richly decorated ceremonial garment, the western shirt becomes real workwear; robust, simple and cheap. 

The 1940s-50s became known as the Golden Age of Western shirts and was the turning point from a working garment to a fashion statement made popular by the influx of new cowboy and western movies.
